What you'll do as a Voice of the Community volunteer

When you become a Voice of the Community volunteer, you'll participate in projects like these:

  • Help us create or improve educational materials about blood or marrow transplant (BMT) or clinical trials
  • Provide feedback on program names, outreach efforts or other promotions
  • Review clinical trials to make them easier for patients and caregivers to participate

Each project takes about 30 minutes to an hour. We want you to share your feedback honestly. You won't hurt our feelings! We want information and resources to be the best they can be.

For each project, you can expect us to:

  • Give you clear instructions and any needed materials
  • Answer your questions promplty
  • Keep your feedback confidential
  • Give you reasonable amount of time

As a volunteer, you're asked to:

  • Participate in at least four projects each year
  • Keep track of the time you spend volunteering
  • Keep information shared by other volunteers confidential
  • Tell us if you can't volunteer anymore

How to become a Voice of the Community Volunteer

We're looking for volunteers who:

  • Recieved a blood cancer or blood disorder diagnosis
  • Are the primary caregiver for someone with a blood cancer or blood disorder. A primary caregiver is a loved one who is heavily involved in the patient's medical care throughout their treatment experience. For example, attending appointments, managing medicines, assisting in treatment decisions, and other aspects of managing the patient's health.

You can apply even if BMT wasn't part of your treatment. There are no educational or geographical requirements. However, we request that volunteers read and speak English fluently because this role focuses on communicating feedback. Bilingual volunteers are especially encouraged to apply!

The first step is fill out an application that helps us learn more about you and your experience. Then you'll recieve more information from an NMDP patient education team member to help you get started. Questions? Email VoiceofCommunity@nmdp.org
